6 tips for “playing” the camera you might not know

Professional photographers have to play with the camera every day. They can say that they are too familiar with how to “play” the camera. Many professional photographers have summarized six very useful camera details in a blog. And share it with everyone.

1, about focusing

Many cameras press the shutter button halfway to automatically complete the focus, sidelights, etc., which usually makes shooting easier. However, in the face of a subject moving back and forth or having special requirements, half-pressing the shutter is too inconvenient and often leads to accidental photographs.

As a result, many photographers prefer to use the AF-ON button or the AE lock button. The AF-ON button is more important when shooting two objects with similar positions and similar sizes. You can also use trail cameras which are designed especially for capturing moving objects. The best part is you don’t need to burn your pocket for them. Best trail camera under $100 work great as well.

2, about the mode

In order to control the incoming light and obtain more accurate exposure photos, Aperture Priority (AV) and Shutter Priority (TV) provide a convenient way to shoot. The shutter priority is suitable for shooting fast-moving objects. The photographer can easily choose whether he wants to be clear or fuzzy. Aperture priority is more suitable for photographers who have requirements for depth of field. More people tend to use aperture priority.

Manual gear (M) is a full challenge choice. The photographer has to control both the shutter speed and the depth of field. Especially with high-contrast light conditions, the photographer can get the best photos.

The concert photographer uses the manual gear to set the exposure shutter in advance. When the beautiful stage lights are moved to the performer or the face, they are pressing the shutter.

3. About metering

Although global metering and matrix metering are very convenient and easy to use, many photographers still prefer to control more spot metering to obtain more accurate exposure, especially under different light variations and high contrast conditions. In addition, other metering during backlighting often results in underexposed photos.

4, on the exposure

When using aperture priority or shutter priority, many photographers like to use AE-Lock with spot metering to control the exposure to a specific value, regardless of how many shutters or focus targets are transferred, the exposure value remains constant.

Although a few cameras’ AE locks can only last for a few seconds, most of them can last until the button is released. In order to capture a wonderful moment when shooting some dynamic scenes, it is especially important to use the automatic exposure lock.

5, on the focus

Although high-end cameras have a lot of focus, many professional sports photographers still choose center focus. This is not entirely a matter of habit, the center focus is the most accurate and most easily sensed position in the focus point, allowing the photographer to quickly and accurately capture the momentary picture.

At the same time, the center focus can also save the trouble of adjusting the focus position back and forth, and avoid the loss of the emphasis on the composition and the picture is too cluttered.

6, about the flash

News photographers often use flashlights, which not only make the subject vibrant, but also separate it from the background and emphasize it, especially in backlight or dark conditions.

Many high-end cameras don’t have a built-in flash, and photographers choose to connect the flash. One of the benefits is that it is farther away from the lens and can reduce red-eye problems, such as studio flash, etc., where the source of the light is farther away from the lens.
