The only difference is that pancake slip ring is platter and flat in dimension. The height of this type of slip ring is much lesser than the general slip ring.

The structure of pancake slip ring is not much complicated; the conduction material is attached on the surface of the flat plate and the metallic rings on the shaft. However, the weight and volume vary through different slip rings depending on the application and use. Mostly, precious metals are used to make contacts.

During the rotation, the stationary part (Metallic brush) transmits the electrical signals to that metallic ring. Hence, transmission of electric power occurs from stationary to the rotating part of the assembly.
